door2door enables cities, municipalities and public transport companies to expand their offer with a new digital ridepooling service. Read further to find out how we, together with our partners, are putting a new service on the road in three phases.
It all starts with a challenge. Inefficient, expensive bus lines, limited night services, impractical analogue DRT services or inadequate connections: There are various reasons why a public transport operator, a municipality or a city decides in favour of implementing a new ridepooling service. What they all have in common is that they are looking for a digital mobility solution for their individual challenges. An on-demand ridepooling service can be exactly that, as it expands their range of services efficiently and purposefully.
Ridepooling as a demand-based, digital approach breaks down inefficient structures and optimizes existing offers. When booking, each passenger can individually determine the pick-up time, start and destination and is assigned to a free vehicle by the system. At the same time, similar requests coming in via the app are checked. The algorithm distributes the passengers among the vehicles in such a way that detours in each journey are kept to a minimum. This not only reduces the number of individual journeys but also relieves the transport infrastructure.
The implementation of a new ridepooling service by door2door takes place in three efficient phases, which help the operator to independently integrate and run the new service on a long-term basis. In the following, we will explain exactly what happens in these three phases.
Plan
The implementation of a new ridepooling service begins with the planning phase. Together with our customers, we discuss the objectives of the project and advise them on the best possible way of realizing the new ridepooling service. Our experienced mobility consulting team analyzes the current mobility situation on the basis of the available data. In this way, we create an overview of supply gaps and new potential operating areas. The detailed preliminary mobility analysis ensures that the new service is adapted to the needs on-site. As a result, an efficient and optimal extension of the current offer can be implemented. With the help of virtual simulations, factors such as the expected number of bookings, fleet size and bookable places, we determine the optimal start scenario. On the basis of the collected data, our mobility consulting team creates the service design for a successful implementation of the new service.
Since the implementation is associated with costs and sometimes high administrative expenses, we support our customers in applying for funding and approval procedures. The federal, state and EU governments have launched a large number of programmes for the digitisation and electrification of transport. They provide corresponding funds for municipalities and local transport companies, which are often underreported and are therefore not considered. We identify potential offers and assist with the application process. We also assist with sourcing ideal drivers and vehicles for the new service. Whether an electric car or autonomous driving: As we are an independent company, we have no limits.
The new service also requires intensive marketing support so that it can become better known by the public. For this purpose, our marketing team offers various services that form the basis for the long-term awareness and success of the offer. Read here how our design team creates new brands.
Run
We offer innovative software solutions for the implementation and control of the new operation, which can either be integrated into existing systems or taken over independently. The intuitive interface is very user-friendly and enables simple use of the software, both for passengers and for operators.
The basis of the software suite is the ridepooling algorithm, which automatically assigns passengers to a vehicle. The system checks all relevant factors for each request, selecting the optimal route for all passengers in real-time so that the passengers are brought to their destination in the shortest possible time. The algorithm connects the Passenger and Driver apps, as well as the Operations Management tool, through which processes can be controlled and monitored.
Optimize
A new service always offers new insights and room for optimization. With data-based solution approaches, we provide assistance for independent, long-term monitoring of the results. In this way, we ensure that the new service remains a full success. We also offer BI Reporting, which converts service data into clear graphics and KPIs. This data-based approach ensures that the new mobility solution realizes its full potential. The intuitive and simple operation of the program allows you to independently monitor the success of the new service over the long term and thus continually optimize it. Should technical problems or other concerns arise, our customer service team is always there to help.
